It’s “Sew” Easy!

September 28, 2007 on 9:30 am | In Products By Janet | 1 Comment

Plain ol’ fashion sewing is something I love to do… I make clothes, quilts, and lots of other fun stuff that I can’t find in stores - BUT – Like most of you, when it comes to making repairs ~ YUCK ~ I put it off as long as possible.

When I was in highschool, I remember many mornings when I wanted to wear something at the last minute; it always needed fixing… I’d sit in bed and sew away - a couple of times I would sew it right to my bedspread (I wish I was kidding)!  Back then and to this day, I only set up my professional sewing machine for major projects - NOT for making repairs!

P706018L.jpgWhen something needs a “quick fix”, I grap my Mini Cordless. It’s “sew” handy & hassle-free - it does a great job. Take it from me – the sewing girl.

Enjoying the Emmys

September 26, 2007 on 6:48 am | In Products By Ann | 2 Comments

I was watching a recap of the Emmys on one of those entertainment shows. It’s amusing to me how seriously this country takes its celebrities. The “reporters” were asking each actor/actress what designer outfit they were wearing. Some of the dresses were very revealing. I bet that they had to use strategically placed tape to make sure that there were no “wardrobe malfunctions” like what happened to Janet Jackson at the Super Bowl a few years ago. They probably used Flash Tape to make sure everything stayed in place. I’ve used this tape myself to keep gaping blouses closed. Who knew I would have something in common with the celebrity world? I always wanted to be an actress. I guess this is the closest I will get to it.

- Until next time… Ann :)

Peel (Core & Slice) Power

September 21, 2007 on 7:46 am | In In the Kitchen, Products By Janet | 1 Comment

Last night I baked my Mother’s Easy Apple Cake, and today I’m buying Apple Peeler & Corer. It took me longer to peel, core and slice those 4 darn apples, then it did to make the cake!

P209068L.jpgApple pie season is just starting, so before you begin baking, do yourself a favor – leave the time-consuming apple work to this wonderful device which turns a whole apple into a peeled, cored and sliced one, with a simple turn of the handle. Voila! Pie filling in an instant – it’s the only sensible thing to do!

Easy Apple Cake is really easy, & delicious, & it feeds the whole crowd.  Here’s the recipe:

  • 4 large apples, peeled, cored & sliced
  • 2 1/2 C sugar with 1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 3 C unsifted flour
  • 3 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 C cooking oil
  • 1/3 C orange juice
  • 2 1/2 tsp vanilla

Mix apples with 1/2 C sugar, 1/2 tsp. cinanamon, and set aside.  Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour 10″ tube pan. Add all other ingredients into a mixing bowl and mix for 3-4 minutes (with electric mixer) til smooth. Pour 1/2 batter mixture into the pan, layer 2/3 apple mixture, then remaining batter , and top with remaining apples. Bake for 1 1/2 hours til golden. Cool in pan.  Serves 10-12

Oatmeal Elation

September 19, 2007 on 6:33 am | In Products By Ann | 1 Comment

I remember having a hot pot back in college. Of course they weren’t allowed, but we all had them. I would make soup in it. Hot pots have come a long way since then. For starters, they don’t call them “hot pots” anymore. Instead, they are called Electric Kettles. They are faster, safer and easier than the old hot pot models of days past.

I wanted to get one again because boiling water on the stovetop takes too long. Plus, I eat instant oatmeal a lot. It just doesn’t taste the same cooked in the microwave. In fact, some package directions recommend that you don’t cook it in the microwave. I ended up buying the Electric Kettle from always-free-shipping. It’s great for tea, instant coffee, soup or making oatmeal.

P.S. Here’s a recipe for Oatmeal Brownie Crunch Bars for you to try.

For Cashmeres Only

September 18, 2007 on 10:11 am | In Products, Uncategorized By Scott | 2 Comments

Do you hate having to take your cashmere sweaters to the dry cleaners? I know it has always been one of my mom’s biggest gripes. She loves wearing her sweaters, but hates having to take them to the dry cleaners in the dead of winter. Well mom, I have a solution for you. I found an item called For Cashmeres Only. It is a gentle cleaner that allows you to hand wash all of your fine cashmeres safely without dry cleaning. It was uniquely created to enhance the soft and lofty characteristics of the cashmere fiber. If only I had discovered this years ago, I could have made mom’s life alot easier long ago. Look for it soon.

September Closet Clutter

September 14, 2007 on 8:38 am | In Organizing By Janet | 2 Comments

Don’t get me wrong…. I love summer AND I love fall …. but for me, summer is hard to let go of. That’s the dilemma I face every morning when standing in front of my multi-season cluttered closet. I can’t bring myself to do the big “change-over” quite yet (we still get the occasional high 70’s day), but this weekend I’m determined to put away my only-for-summer shoes is the underbed shoe cases I’ve talked about before, as well as organize ALL of my purses.

P705000L.jpgHere at always-free-shipping we have a brand new item that does the trick of closet organizing, with ease. Ever hear of the Purse Rack? This clever strap device hangs inside the closet door, and 8 adjustable hooks store handbags, totes, even scarves! This will help clear my cluttered closet, and calm my early morning cluttered mind to boot.

Freshen up with Cedar spray

September 12, 2007 on 7:43 am | In Products By Jeanne | 1 Comment

Nothing smells better than a cedar closet. It is the consumate fall aroma. It reminds me of tailgating parties, apple picking, and antique shopping in little villages. You don’t have to line your entire closet with expensive planks to get a little bit of this splendor. The cedar fresh spray is great for refreshing your existing cedar blocks, or rejuvinating your musty sweaters. Where ever you choose to spray, you’ll be happy you did!
